Two Velar sofas in yellow and black by Andreas Engesvik for Fogia

Velar sofa by Andreas Engesvik for Fogia

Dezeen Showroom: Andreas Engesvik has designed the Velar sofa for Fogia, giving it a curved high back to create the feeling of sitting up in bed.

Velar is a sofa with a simple but distinctive silhouette, defined by the upswept curve of its back and its open, arm-free sides.

With its low-slung position and generous 2.5-seater proportions, Velar offers an informal seating option in both private and public settings.

"You can naturally reach for objects like glasses, books or phones from side tables or have space for children to perch," said Engesvik.

"People naturally gravitate towards Velar. It has a distinctly welcoming, relaxing atmosphere."

Velar is made to order in Fogia's factory in Gdansk, Poland, and is customisable with a variety of colour and upholstery options.

The brand prides itself on using quality materials, and all its leathers, feathers and down are byproducts from other industries.
