Head of the Bellevue lamp in steel grey

Bellevue lamp by Arne Jacobsen for &Tradition

Dezeen Showroom: to celebrate what would be Arne Jacobsen's 120th birthday, &Tradition has launched two special editions of the Danish architect's Bellevue floor lamp.

Jacobsen first created the lamp in 1929 and it is considered to be a classic piece of Danish minimalist design.

Bellevue features a cast iron base and distinctive lamp shade that is formed from a single piece of metal.

"With its graceful lines and clean, understated silhouette, the lamp was part of a wider shift towards a new school of thought that melded sculptural simplicity with the functionalism of Bauhaus," said &Tradition.

The brand's anniversary edition of the lamp nods to Jacobsen's original design and is available in two new finishes.

The lamp shade and base comes in white or stone grey and the stem of the lamp is finished in bronzed brass.

"Credited as one of the grandfathers of modern Danish furniture, Jacobsen is remembered for his exacting perfectionism, his preference for organic forms, and his ability to marry elegance with function," said &Tradition.

"These pioneering qualities are all apparent in the Bellevue, a floor lamp that feels as contemporary now as when it was first created."
