This week the Stirling Prize shortlist was revealed

This week on Dezeen, RIBA revealed the shortlist for this year's Stirling Prize, which was dominated by projects in London.

Of the six projects on the shortlist for this year's prize, which includes buildings by Niall McLaughlin ArchitectsHopkins Architects and Henley Halebrown, four are located in London with the other two in Cambridge and Falkirk, Scotland.

The list includes a school, a college campus and an art and community centre (pictured above).

While the list contains no previous winners, Reiach and Hall Architects, Hopkins Architects and Niall McLaughlin Architects have all been shortlisted three times before and Henley Halebrown once.

British designer Peter Saville has given the Aston Martin logo an update

In other UK news, British car brand Aston Martin has unveiled a Peter Saville-designed update to its winged logo. The legendary designer made "subtle but necessary" changes to the Aston Martin wings, removing a semi-circular line that ran through the earlier version.

"Subtle but necessary enhancements not only keep forms fresh, but allow for new technologies, situations and applications to be accommodated in the future," Saville said.

Frank Gehry's The Grand complex has opened in Los Angeles

Architect Frank Gehry's latest building, a skyscraper duo named The Grand, opened in Los Angeles this week across from his famous Walt Disney Concert Hall. The complex will house residences, retail spaces and the Conrad Los Angeles hotel.

Though the Walt Disney Concert Hall is often seen as an example of the deconstructivist architecture style, Gehry "never considered himself a deconstructivist," his spokesperson told Dezeen.

A glowing metal ring framed Saint Laurent's Spring Summer show

In design news this week, London-based designer Es Devlin created an illuminated metal ring for French fashion house Saint Laurent's Spring Summer 2023 show in the Moroccan desert.

The perforated metal ring, which was illuminated across its inner edge, twisted and emitted artificial mist. Devlin also designed the rest of the set, including a mirror-clad colonnade that surrounded rows of dusty red, stone-like stools and a circular pond at its centre.

Balenciaga and Bang & Olufsen have created a bag-speaker hybrid

Also in fashion, luxury brand Balenciaga unveiled its collaboration with audio brand Bang & Olufsen, the Speaker Bag that plays music.

"This innovative device is part bag, part Bluetooth sound system," said Balenciaga. "It can be used as a portable speaker, a functional purse, or both, as a true hybrid product."

Popular architecture projects this week include a family home in India with scalloped walls, a minimalist house in Tel Aviv and an inverted-pyramid chapel in Portugal.
