Farshid Moussavi, Yves Béhar and Patrizia Moroso are announced as judges for Dezeen Awards 2023

Architects Farshid Moussavi and David Rockwell, designers Sabine Marcelis and Yves Béhar alongside Moroso art director Patrizia Moroso have been announced as the first five Dezeen Awards 2023 judges.

Dezeen Awards 2023 launched on 15 February in partnership with Bentley Motors. Enter before 29 March to save 20 per cent on entry fees.

Now in its sixth year, the programme has become the ultimate accolade for architects and designers everywhere, with winners selected by a prestigious panel of international judges.

Farshid Moussavi is the founder of Farshid Moussavi Architecture

British-Iranian architect Moussavi will judge the architecture categories for the sixth edition of Dezeen Awards.

Moussavi, who is also an educator and writer, previously co-founded Foreign Office Architects with Alejandro Zaera-Polo before establishing Farshid Moussavi Architecture in 2011.

Moussavi's completed projects include the Museum of Contemporary Art in Cleveland, Victoria Beckham's flagship stores in London and Hong Kong, and Jardins de la Lironde in Montpellier.

Sabine Marcelis is based in Rotterdam

New Zealand designer Marcelis, who recently launched the Varmblixt collection in collaboration with IKEA, will be on the design judging panel this year.

Rotterdam-based Marcelis' work ranges from furniture and lighting to installation and spatial design. Since founding her eponymous studio in 2011, she has created pieces for architecture firms such as OMA and MVRDV as well as high-fashion labels like Fendi, Celine and Dior.

Her designs are in the permanent collections of Museums Boijmans van Beunigen and Centraal Museum Utrecht in the Netherlands as well as the National Gallery of Victoria in Australia.

David Rockwell is the founder of Rockwell Group

American architect Rockwell will be on the interiors judging panel for Dezeen Awards 2023.

Rockwell is the founder and president of Rockwell Group, a New York-based multi-disciplinary design and architecture practice specialising in hotel and hospitality design with satellite offices in Los Angeles and Madrid.

Recent projects include a 19th-century train warehouse that was converted into the headquarters for charitable organisation City Harvest in Brooklyn, a hotel informed by Catalan architect Antonio Gaudi and Japanese craft for American hospitality brand Nobu in Barcelona and a restaurant that features a screen of two-toned blue discs behind the bar in the new Ritz-Carlton Hotel in Manhattan.

Yves Béhar is the founder of Fuseproject

Joining Marcelis on the design judging panel will be Yves Béhar, designer, entrepreneur and founder of the design and innovation studio Fuseproject Béhar, who recently launched the digital division, Fusedigital.

Béhar has collaborated with brands such as Herman Miller, Samsung, Issey Miyake and Prada. He has also co-founded start-ups such as August Home, Canopy Space and Forme Life.

The design entrepreneur recently developed a bionic wearable that uses electric pulses and artificial intelligence to correct muscle movements in people with limited mobility. His works are included in permanent museum collections worldwide including the MoMA and SFMOMA.

Patrizia Moroso is the art director of Moroso

Moroso is the art director of the family-run Italian furniture brand Moroso and will be joining Rockwell on the interiors judging panel.

Moroso's designs have been displayed worldwide including at New York's MoMA, the Palais de Tokyo and Grand Palais in Paris and Venice Biennale. In 2010, the Italian Ministry for Innovation awarded Philippe Bestenheider's Nanook chair for Moroso the national award for innovation, which was presented to Moroso by then president of Italy Giorgio Napolitano.
