Soft pink Sweet Embrace named Dulux Colour of the Year 2024

Promotion: paint brand Dulux has announced its Colour of the Year for 2024 – a delicate, soft pink colour named Sweet Embrace.

The new shade is described by Dulux as a delicate and modern tone, and was chosen by architecture and design professionals for its ability to "bring a sense of stability and softness to a space".

"What is so wonderful about Sweet Embrace is its soothing subtlety," said colour expert and creative director at Dulux, Marianne Shillingford. "While being a beautiful standalone colour, it's a hue that matches perfectly with so many other shades so that decorators can use it as a backdrop to build a totally individual space upon."

"A shade as versatile as Sweet Embrace encourages us to get creative spaces that allow occupants to feel completely at home," Shillingford continued.

As part of the recent launch, Dulux created three colour palettes that aim to provide architects, specifiers and designers with a "wealth of colour inspiration" when creating stylish spaces. Warm is a completion of earth tones that intends to create snug spaces for bedrooms, living and kitchen areas.

Calm includes blues and greens, and is designed to create relaxing spaces, which are ideal for home offices and bathrooms.

The final palette – Uplifting – includes a mixture of yellows and lilac colours designed to promote a positive and uplifting mood, which Dulux says is perfect for hallways, bathrooms or dressing areas to encourage a "get up and go attitude".

The palettes are suitable for use across a range of sectors, from the home to schools and care homes.

"The Colour of the Year 2024 and its accompanying palettes can be used to evoke a wide range of emotions for building occupants and are suitable for use across a wide range of sectors," said Dulux Trade senior colour designer, Dawn Scott.

"Whether you are looking for bright colours to inspire the younger generation at school or help those living with dementia maintain their independence by making critical surfaces more visible with saturated, deeper tones, Sweet Embrace and the Warm, Calm and Uplifting palettes are the ideal solution."

Dulux has run its Colour of the Year scheme for 21 years, which is based on extensive trends and research conducted by its colour experts and international design professionals.

To provide additional guidance on the use of Sweet Embrace, the brand has also created the Dulux Trade Colour of the Year 2024 Specifier Brochure, which features mood boards that aim to help designers or homeowners design their "perfect space".

Sweet Embrace and the Dulux Colour Futures palettes are available to specify from 12 September 2023.
