Raw Edges' Home Sweet Home collection for Cozmo recreates "cosiness of coming back home"

Raw Edges founders Yael Mer and Shay Alkalay introduce their digitally printed Home Sweet Home collection for Cozmo in this video produced by Dezeen for the furniture brand.

Home Sweet Home is a collection of soft furnishings for Cozmo, which was made from digitally printed textiles created by London-based design studio Raw Edge sand printed by Kornit Digital.

The collection references kitsch vintage homewares adorned with idyllic alpine scenes, sporting graphics including red-roofed cottages and rolling hills.

"We wanted to bring together the feeling of being out travelling and then being at home at your safest and most protected place," said Mer in an exclusive video interview with Dezeen filmed in London.

"We thought about this feeling of when you open your door and you have this warmth and cosiness of coming back home," added Alkalay. "That's the feeling we wanted to create."

Included in the collection is a range of changeable covers for Cozmo's signature modular sofa, adorned with a herringbone arrangement of leaf-like graphics.

Cozmo's sofa was designed for adaptability, with a modular system that fits a variety of living spaces and easily removable jackets that allow users to change its appearance.

"We wanted to design a sofa that evolves with the customer" said Nadav Hassan, CEO of Cozmo.

"It doesn't need to always look the same," he continued. "We thought: life changes, you need a sofa that changes with you."

Among the other furnishings are sofa cushions emblazoned with pastoral scenes, larger floor cushions, and curtains.

Raw Edges and Cozmo teamed up with printing company Kornit Digital to create the fabrics that make up the collection.

"They're doing amazing printing, which works amazingly for a Cosmo jacket," said Mer.

The designs in the collection came about through a process of experimentation, enabled by using the Kornit Presto Max printer to print prototype graphics directly onto the fabric.

According to Raw Edges, the on-demand nature of Kornit Digital's printing capabilities allowed them to experiment freely without generating excess waste fabrics.

Scott Walton, head of global business development at Kornit Digital, explained the sustainable benefits of the brand's technology to Dezeen.

The Home Sweet Home collection is themed around optimism

"Kornit is built on the foundation of a waterless pigment technology," he said. "So we save a colossal amount of water energy, and we're able to have a technology which is fully sustainable, biodegradable, and also prints on multitudes of fabrics."

Raw Edges told Dezeen that optimism is the theme that underlines the Home Sweet Home collection.

"Somehow in our design, there is always a place for optimism, and how design can create something a little bit uplifting," said Mer.

The Home Sweet Home collection launches tomorrow at Cozmo's showroom in Coal Drops Yard, London.
