Dezeen Showroom: designer Samuel Wilkinson has created a contemporary take on traditional timber armchairs with Yõso, manufactured by British brand Allermuir.

Yõso is a solid oak wood chair that combines elements of classic timber furniture design with modern refinement and a contemporary sense of detail.

Yõso is a new take on the classic timber armchair

Its simple appearance belies the complexity of the design, which required numerous iterations to achieve harmony between its armrests and backrest.

"Yõso started with a lot of sketching, searching for different combinations and junctions," said Wilkinson. "We then made a simple timber 1:1 prototype to start to test ergonomics."

"As the backrest sits on top of the arm, getting the seat balance is more difficult as changing one thing directly affects another," he continued.

Yõso is made from oak wood and is available in a range of stained finishes.
