Blue Ocean quartzite by Eggersmann

Blue Ocean quartzite by Eggersmann

Dezeen Showroom: kitchen brand Eggersmann has added a naturally occurring quartzite with a bluish hue to its catalogue, which can be used to clad its kitchens.

Blue Ocean quartzite is named after its blue-hued appearance, as well as the wave-like rhythm created by dramatic natural striations and pebble-like inclusions.

Blue detailing occurs naturally in Eggersmann's Blue Ocean quartzite

"Deep blue tones, pebble-like inclusions and striking veining — ranging from bluish and olive hues to rust-coloured accents — define Blue Ocean quartzite," said Eggersmann.

"Its appearance is not designed but formed by nature over millions of years through tectonic movement, heat, pressure, wind and water, resulting in a material with a distinctly individual character."

It is used to create striking kitchens

Using it to create the sides and tops of kitchen units and islands reinforces Eggersmann's dramatic aesthetic and statement approach to kitchen design.

The brand envisages it being combined with carefully crafted details such as mitred edges, integrated grips and hot-rolled, brushed stainless steel to create a cohesive, monolithic composition.
