RooMoo Design Studio has renovated and redesigned the SOM LAND Hostel on Chongming Island, China.

"Due to problems with the original buildings, it was necessary to adjust the old and inappropriate spatial layout, add new design strategies and provide renovations to meet the unique requirements," told RooMoo Design Studio.

"Therefore, in order to embody the concept of Som Land, we chose moderate moderation as the most critical direction for the renovation."

By keeping the height of the original building unchanged, the height of each floor was optimised and the original two-storey structure was changed to three floors, increasing the number of guest rooms at Som Land Hostel.

"In order to maximise the view from the rooms, we relocated the original staircase to the middle of the north side of the building to optimise the line of movement and provide the best views for guests," added RooMoo.

This project has been shortlisted in the hotel and short-stay interior category of Dezeen Awards China 2023.
