Mariam Issoufou

Architect Mariam Issoufou is the founder of architecture and research firm Mariam Issoufou Architects, based in Niger.

Since its inception in 2014, the firm has expanded its offices to Niamey, New York and Zurich, developing public, cultural, residential, commercial and urban design projects.

Projects by Mariam Issoufou Architects include the 2025 Venice Architecture Biennale's Rolex Pavilion, the Hikma Community Complex comprising a library and mosque, which won two Holcim Awards for sustainable architecture and the Niamey 2000 housing project, designed as a response to Niger’s housing crisis.

Issoufou is a professor of architecture, heritage and sustainability at ETH Zurich. Previously, she worked as an associate professor of urban studies at Brown University and was the 2021 Aga Khan critic at Harvard Graduate School of Design.
