Youssofzay + Hart has designed the interiors of Carol Jerrems: Portraits, an exhibition conceived as a ribbon that weaves through the National Portrait Gallery in Canberra, Australia.
Carol Jerrems: Portraits is a bespoke exhibition structure conceived as a chromatic ribbon that weaves through two galleries within Australia's National Portrait Gallery in Canberra.
The intervention backgrounds and unifies over 140 gelatin silver photographs by one of Australia's most iconic photographers.
Inspired by Jerrems' contact sheets, the singular gesture of the ribbon developed from the curatorial premise to display all photographs in a horizontal line.
The intervention creates several intimate rooms and a bold chromatic backdrop. Strategically placed apertures visually link works in dialogue across different thematic sections and create sight-lines that draw visitors forward.
This project has been longlisted in the exhibition design (interior) category of Dezeen Awards 2025.
