Studio Marshall Blecher and Jan Henrik Jansen Arkitekter have restored and extended a modernist summerhouse, Vejrhøj, in Fårevejle, Denmark.
Studio Marshall Blecher and Jan Henrik Jansen Arkitekter breathe new life into Ole Meyer's iconic 1967 modernist masterpiece, improving the performance and size of the original and adding a significant extension.
The original timber structure was carefully rebuilt and extended, meeting contemporary standards while retaining its character and craftsmanship.
Inspired by long-lost 1960s sketches by Meyer, a new concrete volume was embedded into the hillside behind the house.
Echoing the original roof form, it introduces a contrasting palette of board-marked concrete and pine. A sunken courtyard connects the two, creating a sheltered outdoor space.
The result is a bold yet sensitive evolution of Danish modernism, uniting old and new in a cohesive architectural dialogue.
This project has been shortlisted in the house extension category of Dezeen Awards 2025.
