Shortlisted for Dezeen Awards 2025 architect of the year, Sou Fujimoto Architects was founded in 2000 and has studios in Tokyo, Paris and Shenzhen.
The practice's projects are shaped by an experimental lens, and it designs spaces that enhance people's connection to their surroundings and natural environment.
The studio recently unveiled The Grand Ring – a gridded wooden structure used to encircle the Expo 2025 Osaka in Japan.
The 61,035 square metre design was made using traditional joinery techniques, and according to Guinness World Records, it is the largest wooden architectural structure in the world.
Recent projects also include a curved holiday home in Ishigaki Island, Japan, for hotelier Not A Hotel, and a visitors centre for champagne house Maison Ruinart's historic site in Reims, France.
Sou Fujimoto Architects is shortlisted in the architect of the year category of Dezeen Awards 2025.
