The Institute for Psychoanalytical Studies in Architecture (iPSA) and publishing firm Palgrave Macmillan are launching Lacan + Architecture, a book edited by architectural historian John Shannon Hendrix and architect and theorist Francesco Proto.
The book features contributions by Hendrix and Proto, academics Lorens Holm, Donald Kunze, Angie Voela and Tim Martin and Andrew Payne.
Lacan + Architecture examines architectural theory in relation to the work of French psychoanalyst Jacques Lacan, outlining the complex relationship between the mind and space.
Topics include: how the unconscious influences design, the relation between the built environment and mental health, and ethics and contemporary issues within the industry.
The book has been awarded the 2025 Architectural Theory Book of the Year.
Lacan + Architecture book launch takes place from 6:00pm to 8:00pm on 29 October 2025 at AA Bookshop, 33 Bedford Square, London WC1B 3ES, UK.
