Competition overview
At the meeting point between Italy and Slovenia, where cultures, languages and histories intertwine, the city of Gorizia is preparing for a new chapter in its urban evolution.
The competition invites participants to rethink Sant'Anna district, one of the largest residential areas in the town, as a new model of contemporary living.
Participants are asked to create an elaborate masterplan capable of redefining the district's identity.
The proposals should reconnect fragmented spaces, rethink accessibility and enhance the system of parks and open areas through sustainable and inclusive design strategies.
The challenge is to imagine Sant'Anna not as a peripheral neighbourhood, but as a laboratory of urban innovation – a place where design, ecology and community meet to shape a new idea of the city.

Eligibility and judging criteria
The competition is open to architects, designers, students, urbanists, engineers, artists, enthusiasts and anyone interested in the fields of design and architecture.
The jury will evaluate all the proposals according to the following principles:
- originality of the concept
- masterplan's quality
- creative regeneration of the context
- accessibility and multifunctionality
- social impact of the proposal
- graphic representation
Projects that express a special sensitivity towards public space and quality landscape design solutions will be highly appreciated.
