Ryo bookcase by Nao Tamura for Porro
Dezeen Showroom: designer Nao Tamura has created a faceted bookcase for Italian furniture brand Porro, with folded sheets of aluminium giving it a sculptural quality.
The Ryo bookcase is an open and multifunctional shelving unit made wholly of thin sheets of aluminium, shaped into adjustable triangular supports at the edge and middle that bounce light and create areas of shadow.

Triangle shapes convey both lightness and solidity, depending on the angle, points out Porro, and serve as a symbol of energy and stability.
The brand refers to the Ryo bookcase as a "shimmering fifth element within the space" that follows up Tamura's Origata bench and desk with another strong aluminium design.

"Through light and color, Ryo articulates the interior with a quiet sense of order, shaping the surrounding environment and creating engaging sensory experiences," said Porro.
The Ryo bookcase is completed with a subtle protective finish that is said to preserve the material's raw texture. Alternatively, it can be ordered in a painted finish.
