The Data Garden is a new type of carbon-negative data infrastructure based on biological systems.
The Data Garden has been designed to alleviate "data warming" – the environmental impact of the digital data cloud.
The installation features plants that store data nature's way, through DNA data storage. Using the latest genetic sequencing techniques, people can retrieve data from the plants to reveal text, image and sound files stored within DNA.
This represents a new type of cloud, one which absorbs CO2 and emits oxygen, is organic rather than silicon, and offers a more tangible, intimate relationship with personal data.
