Whittaker Parsons has renovated Blythe Hill House, a low-carbon, timber-framed retrofit and extension of a 1970s terrace in London, England.
Blythe Hill House is a low-carbon retrofit and courtyard extension of a 1970s end-of-terrace home in southeast London. Designed for adaptable living in a changing climate, this project reimagines the suburban dwelling with natural materials, passive ventilation and flexible spaces.
A new timber-framed L-shaped extension opens onto a shaded courtyard, supporting indoor-outdoor connection and seasonal use.
Built on low-impact screw piles and powered by an air source heat pump and solar panels, the all-electric home achieves an EPC A rating.
As a result, this project sets a quiet precedent for sustainable, future-proofed domestic architecture rooted in care and adaptability.
This project has been longlisted in the sustainable renovation category of Dezeen Awards 2025.
