The Marc Boutin Architectural Collaborative and Stanley Office of Architecture have designed the Hall Street Pier, a renovation of the existing pier and support structures in Nelson, Canada.
This project draws inspiration from Nelson's iconic Ladybird speedboat – a 1920s community-built vessel celebrating local woodcraft.
Similarly, the Hall Street Pier is a community-driven initiative that involves co-design with local volunteers, woodworkers and suppliers.
Emphasising Nelson's identity, the design uses local wood and technology to reconnect the city to its underutilised lakeshore.
In addition, the pier features a linear sequence of public amenities, including a wooden canopy marking its entrance and offering a covered, programmable space.
This project has been longlisted in the landscape and urban design category of Dezeen Awards 2025.
