David Chipperfield Architects has designed Hertogensite Residences, a residential tower with nine townhouses and an apartment block in Leuven, Belgium.
The Hertogensite Residences are located at the edge of the medieval centre of Leuven, redeveloping a former hospital site that previously divided the city.
Positioned between the city's medieval wall and the River Dijle, the building uniquely combines three residential typologies within one coherent design: a 14-story tower, nine townhouses and a small apartment block.
The tower activates and overlooks an adjacent public park, while the townhouses and apartment buildings define a street running parallel to the city wall.
Given its central position within the master plan, the tower becomes a symbol of the neighbourhood, taking its place on Leuven's skyline.
This project has been longlisted in the housing category of Dezeen Awards 2025.
