David Chipperfield Architects has led the design on three urban blocks of the Lyon Confluence as part of a wider development in Lyon, France.
Located where the Rhône and Saône rivers converge, Lyon Confluence transforms a formerly industrial area into a vibrant mixed-use quarter.
David Chipperfield Architects coordinated three urban blocks while designing three individual buildings within.
The blocks combine residential, office and health centre uses, with ground floors activated by public functions; the three new buildings are shaped by their structure and defined by simple rectilinear forms, yet respond to their specific locations.
The buildings' material presence and adaptable design ensure long-term sustainability while forming a coherent connection with the Herzog & de Meuron master plan and preserving elements of the former wholesale market.
This project has been longlisted in the mixed use project category of Dezeen Awards 2025.
