Malan Vorster has designed the Planted Pavilion in Cape Town, South Africa.
The Planted Pavilion is nestled within the steep slopes of a private estate in Constantia, where this architectural intervention continues the estate's architectural evolution, harmonising with the natural terrain.
"The design responds to the site's contours, allowing the building to blend seamlessly into the hillside while framing views of Table Mountain," said Malan Vorster.
A restrained material palette – sandblasted charcoal concrete, local stone and timber – ensures a tactile connection with the environment.
A planted roof further integrates the structure, creating a balance between built and natural elements, making the design both prominent and respectful of its natural context.
This project has been longlisted in the house rural category of Dezeen Awards 2025.
