Graeme Williamson Architects has designed Twin House, an innovative self-built house in London, United Kingdom.
The project is a 'shared' home for a blended family in Hackney, East London. The form of the house acknowledges this duality through a playful tension between two recognisable domestic envelopes, visible in the profile of the building.
Given its tight urban site, visible in the round, the design approach needed to be inherently sculptural to allow each facade to meet different contextual challenges.
As a result, apertures are strategically positioned to harvest daylight, protecting from overheating and allowing for the interior spaces to retain privacy – while at the same time, enjoying curated views of the cityscape beyond.
This project has been longlisted in the house urban category of Dezeen Awards 2025.
