Steven Holl Architects has designed the Hudson L-House, a gallerist's live-work space in the Hudson Valley, United States.
On a once-vacant lot in Hudson, New York, this 1,700-square-foot L-shaped home for renowned gallerists blurs the line between private dwelling and curatorial platform.
Clad in custom recycled aluminium and lined in warm birch plywood, the house frames a verdant courtyard and hosts both domestic life and design exhibitions. In addition, handcrafted cabinetry, mid-century furnishings and sculptural interventions animate the space.
"With passive strategies, a geothermal well and rain-harvesting pond, the house is as ecologically intelligent as it is artful – a reinvention of the rowhouse, embraced by Hudson's Historic Preservation Commission as a beacon of thoughtful renewal," said Steven Holl Architects.
This project has been shortlisted in the house urban category of Dezeen Awards 2025.
