1,000 Trees Phase 1
Heatherwick Studio has designed the first phase of the 1,000 Trees project in Shanghai, China.
1,000 Trees is a mixed-use project located on the banks of the Suzhou River, adjacent to the M50 Art Park and Riverside Park.
Designed like a pair of lush peaks rising from the riverside, the project is intended to break the monotonous pattern of typical commercial projects and integrate nature, commerce, art, landscape and architectural design.
In addition, it aims to create a more humane place experience and transform a former industrial area into a place integrating shopping, work, entertainment and rest.
The first phase of the project includes shops, restaurants, public spaces and riverside promenades where more than 1,000 trees and 200,000 plants are interwoven with the buildings, bringing significant biodiversity to the site.
This project has been shortlisted in the mixed-use project category of Dezeen Awards China 2023.
