BoF Hair Salon

Name Lab has designed the BoF Hair Salon in Zhengzhou, China.

This project is an open-space hair salon located on the atrium terrace of an indoor commercial street in Zhengzhou City.

The site is composed of two main elements: white clay blocks that divide the space between open and private and the top structure made of galvanised scaffolding that gives the entire space ownership.

"The client hope[d] that the entire venue can be like a catwalk-style exhibition hall, with the space becoming a matching background and the users becoming the core of the space," told Name Lab. "They are the initiator of the Tuesday Event, an event that takes to the streets to give haircuts to lonely elderly people and homeless people for free every Tuesday."

In terms of cost and construction, the designers hoped to simplify the materials and construction techniques without damaging the existing site.

"In the design of this project, we adopted the method that has the least impact on the site," added Name Lab. "[We] used two construction methods, a small amount of simple clay sculpture walls and simple scaffolding, [where] the entire site was divided and reorganised in a simple form...to achieve [the client's] goals."

This project has been shortlisted in the health and wellbeing interior category of Dezeen Awards China 2023.
