Ruins Cave Garden

ArConnect has renovated and redesigned the Ruins Cave Garden in Yunnan, China.

The Ruins Cave Garden is located on the edge of the fields at the foot of Cangshan Mountain in Dali, Yunnan, transformed from a Bai residential courtyard in the southwest corner of the village.

This renovation design project is a contemporary translation and rebirth of the traditional courtyard-centered lifestyle of the Bai people.

Through the integration, sorting, demolition, renovation and addition of the residential buildings and ruins of different eras on the site, the traditional completely introverted residential courtyards are gradually opened to the large-scale Cangshan Mountain landscape.

"While retaining the spatial memory of the traditional Bai residential courtyards, new life is created," said design team ArConnect. "It creates a miniature landscape garden that connects the internal and external scenery at the same time, as well as a contemporary natural lifestyle that is more closely connected and rich with nature."

This project has been shortlisted in the heritage project category of Dezeen Awards China 2023.
