Competition overview
The Oak Moon Pavilion invites architects, designers and students to envision an open-air yoga pavilion for Yoga Farm Italy, a retreat community nestled in the countryside of central Italy.
Set within a newly acquired rural estate near Pescosolido, the competition challenges participants to design a moon-shaped timber pavilion beneath the canopy of a historic oak tree.
The proposal should create a place for yoga, meditation and community while responding sensitively to the surrounding landscape and reflecting the retreat's philosophy of simplicity, sustainability and harmony with nature.
Rather than focusing on a large architectural development, the competition explores how a single, carefully crafted intervention can transform the experience of a place.
Participants are encouraged to create a buildable and environmentally conscious proposal that integrates seamlessly with the existing landscape, celebrates the historic oak and strengthens the identity of the new retreat property.

Eligibility and judging criteria
The competition is open to all architects, designers and students.
The proposals will be judged on:
- Integration and sensitivity: how effectively the proposal responds to the surrounding landscape and celebrates the historic oak tree
- Design and philosophy: how well the pavilion reflects the retreat's ethos of simplicity, sustainability and harmony with nature
- Functionality and community: the creation of a buildable, functional space for yoga, meditation and community gathering
Submission deadlines
Advance registration runs until 5 November, followed by last-minute registration from 6 November to 28 January 2027.
Final registration closes on 28 January 2027.
The closing date for submissions is 1 March 2027 at 23:59 London time, with competition winners scheduled to be announced on 20 April 2027.
