Dezeen Music Project: Marks of a Tear (remix) by BLKrKRT

This is a remix of a track by Japanese artist Yu-Chi, which we featured on Dezeen Music Project back in August last year. The original track is both weird and beautiful, a quality that BLKrKRT's remix retains, while introducing a darker, more brooding intensity.

You can listen to the original track here.

The track was submitted to Dezeen Music Project by online record label Curious Absurdities. You can listen to other tracks we've featured from them here.

Dezeen Music Project: Options by Gazelle

Gazelle is another South African group that we discovered at the Design Indaba Music Circuit in Cape Town last week. As this track called Options demonstrates, Gazelle fuse traditional African music with elements from the electro, disco and synth-pop genres to create an eclectic sound that they call Lim Pop.

Make sure that you also check out the excellent track Ear Salad by South African artist DJ Kimon, which we featured in the first movie from Cape Town as part of our Dezeen and MINI World Tour.

Dezeen Music Project: Control by Spoek Mathambo

Dezeen is at Design Indaba in Cape Town all this week, for the first stop on our Dezeen and MINI World Tour. For the first year at Design Indaba, there is a music festival running alongside the main conference, which is showcasing a range of exciting South African musical talents, and we'll be choosing some of our favourites to feature on Dezeen Music Project.

Spoek Mathambo will be closing the conference on Friday, which gives us the perfect excuse to feature his excellent 'township tech' cover of Joy Division's She's Lost Control.

Make sure you also check out the excellent music video for the track.

Dezeen Music Project: Toothpaste by Floella Grace

This is a session recorded by young British singer-songwriter Floella Grace and features nothing but a stripped-back acoustic guitar and Grace's stunning voice. The track was sent to Dezeen Music Project by Choosic, a newly formed organisation promoting music by unsigned bands and musicians.

You can listen to a studio recording of the track here, but we prefer the raw tenderness of this session version.
