Design Miami 08: Dutch designer Pieke Bergmans has presented the latest incarnation of her Design Virus project, for the Al Sabah Art & Design Collection.

This time Bergmans has applied her technique of blowing molten glass vases directly onto a range of traditional Middle Eastern furniture items.

The collection is on show in the Miami Design District during Design Miami this week.

The Al Sabah Art & Design Collection is a new project by Sheikh Majed Al-Sabah, founder of the Villa Moda chain of fashion stores.

Not design. Art to someone, but not design. Design requires an intended function of the item. These things whatever they are are not usable. Some idiot is supposed to buy it for a mint and then let it collect dust. Doesn’t belong on a design site.

Designers shouldn’t go to school to learn but maybe become designers from another area – like carpentry or engineering. This would avoid “artistic” types from creating useless junk like this. I agree with Joe.
