Patch by Benjamin Hubert at Blå Station

Milan 2010: London designer Benjamin Hubert will present a range of brightly-coloured seating covered in patchwork fabric at the Salone Internazionale del Mobile in Milan next week.

Called Patch, the collection of chairs and stools will be presented with Swedish brand Blå Station.

The fabric on the seats are upholstered on a plywod shell and supported by bent steel legs.

This new range has been developed from Hubert's earlier prototypes of Diamond Chair (see our earlier story).

The following information is from the designer:

Patch by Benjamin Hubert

Benjamin Hubert will launch Patch for Bla station on pavilion 8, stand D36 during the Salone Internazionale del Mobile, 14th-19th of April 2010.

Patch comprises of a patchwork fabric upholstered onto a plywood shell supported by CNC formed steel legs.

Patch is inspired by the language of flat metal work construction used in civil engineering.

The patchwork upholstery detail references industrial sheet steel panel riveting with the flatwork steel completing the relationship.

The range was developed from earlier prototypes of ‘diamond chair’ exhibited in London and Cologne in 2008.

  • horrible haridas

suits the stools, but those legs just don’t seem to gel with the chairs – the form as well as the proportion. nice colours though.

Hubert is beginning to be instantly identifiable and this is both a good and a bad thing. He is definately the most interesting ‘new’ designer on the block and the ‘new’designer most likely to be remembered from the turn of the decade (perhaps the only one looking back retrospectively). His designs are consistently good and practical and hold an element of joy, but here lies the problem, they are becoming predictable. Design needs to keep moving and as your great fan Benjamin, please keep pushing the edges!

  • The Soft Rationalist

another jacobsen-esque chair in primary colors..

  • almost there

I want to like it… but I can’t. love colourful designs, and truly believe he is a good designer, but they are right the legs don’t fit with the style of the chair..
