Design student Martha Schwindling has created a series of three tables with drawers that twist or tilt open.

Called Die Drei, the series is made of elm wood, veneer and linoleum.

The top of one folds back to reveal storage space, another has a drawer that swivels out from the longest side and the smallest has a drawer that pivots downwards.

Schwindling completed the project while studying at the Staatliche Hochschule fur Gestaltung Karlsruhe in Germany.

„Die Drei“ („The Three“) are a table series made of elm wood, veneer and linoleum. Looking like very simple tables, they come up with three surprisingly unconventional opening mechanisms which reinterpret structures of classic furniture.

While other drawers tilt or wear out after some time, Martha Schwindling‘s desk and side table use these asymmetric movements as their functional pinciples.

And another table is turned into a davenport by swinging open its covering.
