Silhouette rugs by Jaime Hayon for Nanimarquina

Dezeen Showroom: Nine spindly portraits of imaginary characters feature on the Silhouette rugs that Jaime Hayon has designed for Nanimarquina.

Silhouette was developed by Spanish designer Hayon to evoke a sketchbook doodle, which Barcelona brand Nanimarquina describes as a reflection of his "acclaimed casual style".

The lightly-coloured portraits are intertwined with small blocks of colour. Each one is drawn from a different perspective and with a unique expression so that the rug can be viewed in several ways.

"It's a freehand drawing, similar to the work in my sketchbooks," explained Hayon.

"There are infinite characters that are part of my imaginary; they change and evolve, according to my current interests," he continued. "There are characters that are endearing, others are more ironic, and some even provoke fear on occasion."

Silhouette is intended for both residential and commercial use. It is available in two standard sizes that can be tailored for both indoor and outdoor environments.

It forms part of Nanimarquina's 2020 collection that features three other unique rug styles, including the Flora collection it has developed with artist Santi Moix.
