Dezeen Awards 2021 sustainability public vote winners feature a bamboo school in Bali

Projects by Ibuku, Rooi Design and Research, and Honext have been voted by Dezeen readers as winners of this year's Dezeen Awards public vote in the sustainability categories.

A total of 53,400 votes were cast and verified across all categories. The results of the public votes for the Dezeen Awards 2021 sustainability categories are listed below.

Dezeen Awards 2021 public vote winners in the architecture categories were announced on Monday, the interiors winners on Tuesday, the design winners on Wednesday, the media winners will be revealed later today, and lastly, the studio winners tomorrow.

The public vote is separate from the main Dezeen Awards 2021 judging process, in which entries are assessed by our prestigious panel of judges. We'll be announcing the Dezeen Awards 2021 winners online in late November.

The Arc at Green School by Ibuku is the winner of the Dezeen Awards 2021 public vote in the sustainable building category

Sustainable building

The Arc at Green School Bali designed by Ibuku was chosen as the sustainable building of the year in the public vote with 55 per cent of votes.

The multipurpose sports court is sheltered by a series of 14-metre-high bamboo arches that mimic the shape of a mammal's rib cage.

The runners up are Kamikatsu Zero Waste Center by Hiroshi Nakamura & NAP with 17 per cent, CiAsa Aqua Bad Cortina by Pedevilla Architects with 12 per cent, The Kendeda Building for Innovative Sustainable Design by The Miller Hull Partnership with 10 per cent, and Welcome to the Jungle House by CplusC Architectural Workshop with six per cent.

Furniture Pavilion S by Rooi Design and Research is the winner in the Dezeen Awards 2021 public vote in the sustainable interior of the year category

Sustainable interior

Furniture Pavilion S is a stacked plywood sheet structure built as a recyclable showroom at the Shanghai International Furniture Fair in 2019. The modular plywood structure won sustainable interior of the year with 40 per cent of the votes.

Next in the sustainable interior category are Valo Hotel & Work with 22 per cent, Bermonds Locke by Holloway Li with 21 per cent, MO de Movimiento by Lucas Muñoz with 11 per cent, and Lolita Eipprova by Triiije with five per cent.

Honext Material by Honext is the winner of the Dezeen Awards 2021 public vote in the sustainable design category

Sustainable design

Barcelona-based company Honext's indoor cladding and partitioning panels made from industrial paper sludge and post-consumer cardboard waste have been voted sustainable design of the year by our readers with 23 per cent of votes.

The runners up are Aquastor by Zihao Design and Common Sands - Forite tiles by Studio Plastique, Snøhetta and Fornace Brioni with 22 per cent, Alive by the Living and Ptacek Home Chunk Line by Ptacek Home with 12 per cent, and Notpla by Superunion with eight per cent.
