Dezeen Showroom: Italian brand Lualdi has created a door that pivots in its frame instead of being hinged on one side.

Compass 55 sits within an aluminium frame and features a pivoting leaf, which turns a simple room divider into a dramatic visual feature.

"Compass 55 can be compared to a large, silent stage curtain, enabling areas to communicate with absolute lightness," said the brand.

Users can select from a wide range of finishes including woods and metals as well as glossy and matt lacquered colours.

The door is 55 millimeters thick and can be fitted with a range of handles by Lualdi.

Technical versions to choose from include passage only, handle and key, handle and privacy, and handle and security cylinder to suit a range of needs.
