"I am definitely buying this one" says commenter

In this week's comments update, readers are discussing Lego's Sagrada Familia, which was launched to mark the centenary of Antoni Gaudí's death.

The replica of the famous Barcelona cathedral is the latest in Lego's architecture series, and will consist of 12,060 pieces making it the largest set ever created by the toy brand.

"This would take me as long to build as the original"

Readers were engaging with the Lego version of the Sagrada Familia, with the majority of comments expressing excitement for its release.

"This is an amazing build, the level of detail achieved is marvellous," enthused Benjamin.

Agreeing, Ferran Espin wrote: "I am definitely buying this one – impressive," while Jamie said, "I like this Lego."

"If it inspires young people to become architects who think outside the box, that would be great… It's been a while since we've had a Gaudí," deliberated APG.

Other commenters called out the high price.

"Beaucoup dollar," wrote Twords, while Benjamin said, "Though it will be a drain on my bank account… It will have been worth it."

And some readers questioned the size.

"At 12,000 pieces, this would take me as long to build as the original," said H.T. Holman.

Pa Varreon asked: "How long to build such a piece of plastic architecture?"

Tod Williams Billie Tsien Architects completes "intentionally sculptural" Obama Presidential Center, comments update

"I can't wait to check it out"

Another story causing a stir in the comments section this week was the granite-clad Obama Presidential Center in Chicago, completed by Tod Williams Billie Tsien Architects.

"I think it looks amazing," said Frank Jenkins. "I can't wait to check it out."

Beggar Boy felt the same, writing, "I'm surprised how much I like this building, actually moved by it the more I study it."

"A forward-looking and yet contemporary masterwork that illuminates the visionary work of the man it portrays in sculpture," said Duckusucker.

Less convinced, Marc S wrote: "An interesting building but out of place in its environment."

"Ain't no gem that's for sure," said Chuck.

"'Could have been worse' sums it up pretty well," said J Kidman. "There's an oddness about it, a kind of non-building-ness which is kind of compelling."

"It's an evil lair obelisk," said Ruckus Amsel, before he added, "that interior is pretty sweet tho."

Overhanging balconies to unite Albanian housing blocks by Zaha Hadid Architects, comments update
Overhanging balconies to unite Albanian housing blocks by Zaha Hadid Architects

"This is a bit of a shocker"

Also stoking debate was Zaha Hadid Architects (ZHA) designs for The Nest, a housing development in Albania featuring overhanging balconies.

"There's this unexpected retro-futurist thing going on that I might be kind of into," wrote Richard Dempsey.

Following a similar train of thought, Alfred Hitchcock chimed in with, "It reminds me of the sets used in 1960s fantasy pop-art, sci-fi films like Barbarella." He then asked, "Is it intentionally retro, I wonder?"

"Good on Albania for being adventurous," wrote Opera Creep. "Their recent commissions seem interesting and distinctive."

Other readers were less sure about the design.

"Not that bad for a ZHA project, but not good either," said Miles Teg. "It gives me that uncanny 'this is AI-generated' feeling that I can't quite describe."

"This is a bit of a shocker," said The Discreet Architect.
