Not A Hotel reveals design for giant Poké Ball guest room in Japan
Hotelier Not A Hotel has revealed its latest guesthouse will take the form of a human-sized Pokémon Poké Ball, nestled beside a lake in Hokkaido, Japan.
Set to be built in Tomakomai City, the Poké Ball-Themed Hotel will feature a three-metre-diameter spherical guest room shaped like the balls used to catch and store wild creatures in the popular Pokémon game.

Designed by Not A Hotel's in-house team of architects, the structure will comprise two moulded acrylic hemispheres and a curved acrylic window, giving the appearance of an opening ball.
It will aim to immerse guests in both the natural setting and the world of Pokémon.

Visitors will enter the spherical structure through a sliding, curved door. Inside, a custom-designed circular mattress will fill most of the interior.
A washroom will be decorated in tiles the colour of the Snorlax – a Pokémon character known for its long sleeping habits. Guests will be able to select custom interior lighting themes based on Pokémon characters.
"As society becomes increasingly convenient and efficient, Not A Hotel aims to bring more joy to individuals' lives," said Not A Hotel.
"For years, Pokémon fans have dreamed of stepping inside a Poké Ball," it continued. "Not A Hotel, leveraging its architectural and technological expertise, has turned that dream into a reality."
"This structure transcends the boundaries of architecture and product design, fusing the world of Pokémon with the architectural quality that defines Not A Hotel."

Created in collaboration with sleep-tracking game app Pokémon Sleep, the hotel will open in celebration of the third anniversary of Pokémon Sleep and the 30th anniversary of Pokémon this year.
Not A Hotel said people will get the chance to stay in the giant poké ball by winning an upcoming competition, but the room will not open to the public for bookings or visits.
Other projects by Not A Hotel that have featured on Dezeen include a coastal holiday home designed by Sou Fujimoto and a trio of rammed-earth villas designed by BIG.
