Hotel Umbral
by Nomah and JSa

Rafael Gamo

Nomah has restored and transformed a 1920s building into a hotel, reinterpreting the building's original materials.

The project concept was to create a threshold, or "umbral" in Spanish, which gave the name to the hotel. It is replicated several times, in different ways, and creates transitions between different areas.

The scenic interior design uses light and colour. Its restoration was an opportunity to create a dialogue between its past and its present; where the essence of its original architecture is preserved without neglecting the new function, keeping the aesthetic balance.

This project has been longlisted in the hotel and short stay interior project category of Dezeen Awards 2020.
