Rain Harvest Home is a retreat which consists of a main residence, a detached art studio, and a bathhouse.
This collection of small structures in the mountains west of Mexico City incorporates permaculture principles to establish an off-the-grid, water-autonomous retreat. Located in the town of Temascaltepec, the name of which is drawn from the pre-Hispanic “temazcal” referring to bathhouses and sweat lodges, the retreat proposes a model for designing regeneratively with water in a place where it has become an increasingly scarce resource.

The retreat consists of a main residence, a detached art studio, and a bathhouse, each of which collects rainwater, connecting to an on-site treatment and storage system that supplies 100% of the retreat’s water year-round.

This project has been longlisted in the rural house category of Dezeen Awards 2021.
