Macdonald Road House by Philip Stejskal Architecture downsizer home – replacing one of a 1980s three-pack – allowing its residents to age-in-place and occasionally accommodate their adult children.
Located on a prominent Applecross corner, they asked for an iconic home, built on local traditions, tailored to local demands, private yet in dialogue with the wider community.

The studio adopted the wrap-around verandah from the Australian homestead, which works well in our climate, and overlaid these considerations with budget and brief. The studio's collective desire was to create an endearing building of which locals would become fond. Something humble and private, at the same time interactive and confident.

This project has been longlisted in the urban house category of Dezeen Awards 2021.
