Jiao-xi Presbyterian Church
by AMBi Studio

The materials in the internal space can produce light and shadow effects

The design strategy of Jiao-xi Presbyterian Church is formed around the principle of “re-defining the church and adapting to local conditions”.

The church locates at Jaio-xi, where is rainy and humid in winter, and hot and torridity in summer. There is a height difference of one and a half meters along east-west direction (long direction) of the site, so the first floor is raised up and uses four square masses to support the major structure of the main hall at the second floor. The design also echoes the spirit of what Bible says "the temple of God is built high."

This project has been longlisted in the cultural building category of Dezeen Awards 2021.
