Dezeen Awards 2022 Judge Gavin Christman

Gavin Christman is co-founder and chief designer at Cornish design company Green&Blue, a purpose-driven business making homes havens for wildlife.

Initially starting out working at Dyson, Gavin and his co-founder and wife, Kate, left in 2004 and followed their dream of moving to Cornwall, starting the business with a single product, the Birdball Birdhouse, a spherical nesting site for small garden birds.

Gavin's passion for sustainability, nature and design is the focus of of Green&Blue, reflected in their B Corp certification and their commitment to their vision of reconnecting people with nature.

The products that Gavin designs are created to be manufactured in the UK and to last a lifetime. Products are created in response to the challenges Gavin sees in the natural world. For example, the award winning Bee Brick®, a nesting site for solitary bees, is inspired by the way solitary bees have nested in brickwork or crumbling mortar for hundreds of years.

The Green&Blue range is stocked in various locations across the globe, including Kew Gardens, and has been featured in the Guardian, The Sunday Times and Coast magazine, amongst others. Bee Brick won the Soil Association award for innovation.
