RX Architects has created a pink-pigmented concrete beach house in East Sussex, UK, built to withstand the harsh coastal environment.

The project is is located on Camber Sands beach, directly backing on to the natural sand dunes behind and with outstanding views across the beach and English Channel to the south.

The design is a robust building to cope with extreme weather conditions such as high winds, moving sand and salt air. The building has been externally finished in trowelled micro fibre concrete with a pink pigment, to create a sealed external envelope.

The external material selection was carefully considered to be robust and strong, while the pink pigment in the finish softens the visual impact. The pink hue gives a nod to traditional pink plastered Mediterranean beach houses, and the tone changes depending on the natural light and sun levels.

This project has been longlisted in the rural house category of Dezeen Awards 2022.
