Gerard Dombroski Workshop has created a cabin space to take in forested views in northern New Zealand.

The project is the result of a month-long residency at Driving Creek Railway and Pottery, born of an invitation to return following a working trip themed on curved forms.

Created using materials foraged and found on site, it is designed a a space for viewing – the first view is up towards the skylight, while the second is along the tree line with the roof sweeping between the two views.

The structure is inspired by the curved form of a skate ramp, and stands as a contribution to Driving Creek Railway and Pottery which has a long history of collaboration with artists, some of whom would come to build a cabin in which they would stay or work in.

This project has been longlisted in the small building category of Dezeen Awards 2022.
