Hannah has created a lightweight structure in Virginia that highlights the careful use and construction of timber as a valuable resource.

The project is an easily deployed and assembled A-frame biomaterial structure that tests how far a single log can be stretched – both literally within its assembly, and figuratively as a resource.

It explores new methods of framing for timber construction and promotes the use of hardwood trees devastated by the ongoing emerald ash borer epidemic in North America.

Robotic kerfing techniques and mixed reality tools were used to transform dying ash trees into a materially efficient, valuable resource. Using only six and a half logs, threaded rods, and custom recycled HPDE washers, the project's component parts are as minimal as their constituent form is impactful.

This project has been longlisted in the small building category of Dezeen Awards 2022.
