Archer + Braun Architects and Grace Fletcher and have designed the restoration of Lambeth Road in London, United Kingdom.

This project is a Grade II-listed Georgian townhouse in the Lambeth Palace Conservation Area that has been refurbished and extended through a long collaboration between the client, architect-in-training Grace Fletcher and Archer + Braun Architects.

Originally, the house was in a state of disrepair. The historic fabric has been carefully repaired and selectively restored to retain elements of the building’s past. A rear lower ground floor extension opens the cellular plan of the existing building, creating a flexible living space leading into a reinvigorated garden.

North facing and set below mature trees, a clerestory draws light down into the building from the east and west, and lets you look up and out at the canopy above.

The extension is embedded in its surroundings by reclaimed slates, which are recycled and stacked to form the rear façade. Positioned behind established landscaping, it looks as though it has been there for a long time passed.

This project has been longlisted in the residential rebirth project category of Dezeen Awards 2022.
