ICON has designed House Zero in Texas, USA.

This project sets the standard for what 3D printing can bring to the world. Constructed by Icon, pioneers in advanced construction technologies and large-scale 3D printing robotics, House Zero was 3D-printed by a 9,500lbs robot and designed by the award-winning firm, Lake Flato Architects – known for their sustainable designs.

"Traditional homebuilding hasn’t changed in the past 1,000 years," said ICON. "We have reimagined the future of homebuilding by putting advanced robotics in service to humanity. We have teamed [up] with world-class architects and partners on this shared mission that will not only create a more sustainable and beautiful world on earth but will also help us become a spacefaring civilization."

Featuring an elevated architectural and energy-efficient design that highlights the benefits of resiliency and sustainability, this digitally native approach to home design pushes the boundaries of what is possible with architecture through automated construction only achievable through 3D printing.

This project has been longlisted in the urban house category of Dezeen Awards 2022.
