Nickolas Gurtler has designed Cole Hair Studio in New South Wales, Australia.

This project's brief was to create a salon that felt luxurious, sexy and sophisticated – a place to see and be seen.

Cole Hair Studio is an environment both fierce and luxurious, with a focus on creating an immersive, ritualistic hair experience.

"The interior is designed to evoke a sense of internal fierceness with elements inspired by Tom Ford's first collections for Gucci in the 1990s," said designer Nickolas Gurtler. "The site had previously been a hair salon in a completely different configuration but through extensive consultation with the client, we developed a spatial plan that worked more functionally in terms of the client experience."

The client journey of the space is now simple navigation from the entrance through to the exit – while the central colour-processing bench acts as a communal space that is functional for events and education.

This project has been longlisted in the leisure and wellness interiors category of Dezeen Awards 2022.
