Offhand Practice has created a clothing brand store in China that stands out from its surroundings.

The project is located in Guangzhou, within a shopping mall where stores were identical with little to differentiate between them.

The design focuses on reconfiguration of space, whereby a load-bearing column has been transformed into a core spiral staircase that connects two main entrances on both sides of the facade.

No matter which entry visitors choose to come in from the mall, they are met first by the unconventional solid façade, then by the mysterious stairs. The two stairs slowly converge at the core spiral staircase, then step to the display window, fold back to the merchandise display area, acting as a guide towards finally leaving through the side exit.

This project has been longlisted in the small retail interiors category of Dezeen Awards 2022.
