Ryota Yokozeki Studio has created a set of furniture for a tea brand recalibrated to a modern lifestyle.

The project was created for Takizme, a tea brand based in Shinagawa Tokyo offering Japanese tea and experiences for a modern lifestyle.

The collection comprises a Japanese brazier made from airy Oya stone from Tochigi Prefecture and thin flat cushions filled with traditional buckwheat hulls, alongside a table and shelving made from Paulownia wood, which has been used in Japan for furniture since ancient times for its lightweight and high humidity control properties.

While honouring the Japanese tradition of extensive use of wood material in furniture crafting and at the same time drawing heavily on historical techniques and design styles, each piece of furniture was re-examined from the ground up and designed to suit the new tea experience offered in the modern tea salon.

This project has been longlisted in the furniture design category of Dezeen Awards 2022.
